The Doris Lessing Societypublishes Doris Lessing Studies, which replaced the Doris Lessing Newsletter in 2002. Published once yearly, it is a peer-reviewed journal exploring Doris Lessing’s writing, life, and politics. It is indexed in the MLA International Bibliography and disseminated electronically in such databases as EBSCO’s Humanities International Complete and Literary Reference Center and ProQuest’s Literature Online (LION). Recent issues are available in full here to members.
Contributors may submit short essays, notes, reviews, news, bibliographies, announcements, and reports of classroom experiences. Manuscripts, which should follow the MLA Handbook for style, must be typed, double-spaced and between twelve and eighteen pages. Manuscripts in Microsoft Word should be submitted to the co-editors: Phyllis Perrakis (email@example.com) and Robin Visel (firstname.lastname@example.org). Endnotes should be indicated by superscript numbers manually added within the text and typed in at the end of the article.
The journal also features special issues on themes pertinent to Lessing’s work. Previous special issues include Gender and Sexualities (Fall 2011), Trauma (Winter-Spring 2008); Approaches to Teaching Lessing (Summer 2006); Comparative Lessing (Spring 2005); Aging (Summer-Fall 2004); Myth and Fairy Tales (Winter 2003); and Post-coloniality (Fall 2001). The co-editors welcome proposals for future special issues as well as responses to the journal’s calls for papers.
